One day, I will be as good as you. Or even better. You will be remembered as the one who showed the path to others. You proved that the industry is going through a -heavy- paradigm shift, and that everything changed.

Pour ça, j'aimerais vous dire merci, merci beaucoup. Comme votre confrère James Nachtwey, vous avez une place toute particulière dans mon coeur.

I've loved this video since it came out... still going back to it to watch over and over again. It gave chills down my spine the first time I saw it, and sometimes still does! Too bad the servers hosting it originally were a bit overwhelmed! Hope vimeo can keep up with your success... looking forward to Nocturne - vimeo.com/7152063

Vincent, the moment I saw this video on the Canon site when it was released I literally dropped my HF100 -- as well as my jaws.

Considering it didn't have manual controls and your background was more of a photographer, all the more kudos to you.

Hopefully Canon won't mess up with you again like it did recently with Nocturne, if you continue these shorts.

    Hello Vincent Laforet!
I´m a big fan of your photography style HD Videos!
My favorite is still this video. I would like to be so good,
but this will always stay a dream!
I don´t have all the expensive equipment.
(And... a helicopter isn´t cheap to rent in NY i believe!)
So i mostly have to shoot in my holidays around asia, only freehand, without all this very amazing lenses and video stuffs things... I seen the making of that video, you use much computing power too.

Please never stop DSLR filming, i wanna see more!!!

    Greetings

    Ingo

i am in between the 5d mark ii and 1d mark iv. its confusing but i think the 5d mark ii is still better...
    anyone have an opinion??
Simple if you want 10 fps go for the mark 1dmkiv, 5d only 4 fps for stills. if you want 1080p video, and 21 mp full framer, go 5d. 5d biggest sensor on the present market.

If I were you, wait for the rumoured 28 mp 1080p 5d mk 3

The thing that frustrates me, is that although Reverie--which by the way will always hold a special place in my heart, because it's what made me first fall in love with DSLR filmmaking--is touted as the first 1080P film shot on a DSLR, nowhere can it be found online to view in 1080P. That in my mind is a contradiction. Tell us that it is so amazing because it was the first 1080P DSLR film and then expect us to be content watching it in less than 1080P. Canon yanked the full-res version from their site, leaving us with proverbial Full HD blue balls. Not cool guys. Hopefully Mr. Laforet himself can upload it to Vimeo in all its 1080P glory? Please, please, please Mr. Laforet? If you hear this cry, a profound thank you in advance.
  • Daniel Bean plus 1 year ago
Wow, I posted this comment 5 months ago, and no one else has anything to say about it. Apparently no body gives a crap about watching Reverie in full 1080p (besides me.) I suspect that Canon has something to do with it. Maybe they don't want us to see the moire and aliasing?

Either way, Reverie is still my all time favorite DSLR film. (In all its 540p glory!)

After seeing the rest of your work I have to say this is not the best. But still amazing.

I also want a personal helicopter.
  •
  • Zach Blaesi 8 months ago
Here's what makes this video so amazing: it's pure visual storytelling. The problem with a lot of DSLR videos is that they look "sexy," but they have no story or heart. This video looks amazing, and its visuals are very glorified, but I think there is really something there at the heart of it.

Maybe it's just me, but I interpret this as being surreal. To me, most of the film is a dream, and it's ambiguous which parts take place in "reality." I'm not sure if the character is reflecting on what he wants (the woman is a mere idealization) or a past experience (he recently dated the woman), but the images convey a common human longing, and that's what makes it so great. Does anyone else interpret it like this? How do you prefer to view the film? I have a feeling each person will take something unique away from this (another reason why it's so good).

Also, the shots from the helicopter remind me of the opening dream sequence of 8&1/2 for some reason. I feel like the protagonist could fall over at any second.
