Ken and I wanted to ride the Highwood Pass. Though we knew the pass was closed to cars, we took this as good news, thinking we'd have the road to ourselves. As it was, when we got to the gate, some 40km into our ride, the pass was also closed to cyclist... Bad news, but we forged on taking a different route, to Upper and and Lower Kananaskis Lakes, which ended up being an amazing ride with lots of climbing and bombing downhills.
On the way back, we considered finding some additional distance and rolling out 160+km to make the day a true 100 miler, but Ken suffered a blown tire at the bottom of Nakiska, and we had to limp about 30km back to the car with a $5 bill stuffed in this tire, wrapping the day up around 140kms. Still, a truly epic ride.
We rode 163km the next day.
