Nice work. When I heard (from something Eron posted on Twitter) that you would be filming at the old Coleman factory, I wondered how you got inside. I see you didn't. But great location for a shoot.
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
Actually Amy, we were in part of what's left of the old Coleman Factory. For safety reason's we didn't go in what remains of the building though.

  • Amy Delamaide 2 years ago
Yes, I see. I wasn't very clear. I was trying to say that you were in that compound, but not in the big building. I love that area--the open grassy area with the low row of buildings behind it. There's asbestos in the main building, right? Or something toxic anyway. I really hope something good comes of that area.
  • Amy Delamaide 2 years ago
Andrea, sorry about that. I didn't know. I'll edit my comment to more accurately reflect what I meant.

    @adelamaide I think @AndreaAllen was joshin' about the @twitter handles on @Vimeo ;)

Did you get it all in one take? And the music is live, right?

Oh yeah, and of course, looks awesome, I like the powerful light in the middle. What did you use for that?
  •
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
Yeah, we shot it live in 1 take.

The light is 3 large daylight balanced compact fluorescent bulbs that we propped up with sand bags.

This video is pretty good. I like the band, who is it? And what is the name of this song?
  •
  • Josh Wilson 2 years ago
We are Spirit of the Stairs and this song is called "doq doq, doq". Thanks for the good words.
  • Andrea Allen staff 2 years ago
That's cool, but what is the name of the band? Does the song have a title?
  • Evan H. Senn pro 2 years ago
Where was this shot? I wish you would tell us what band this is and where they are from...

And this song is great, does it have a name?
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
    Dear Evan,

The name of the band is "The Sons of Neil Diamond" and the song is actually a condensed instrumental medley of the complete works of Robert Matthew Van Winkle.

Hope that answers your questions. If you you'd like to learn more you can check out this short music clip on another video sharing site. youtube.com/watch?v=kNzeUCsrL_s

awsome video. What did you do for lighting?
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
    Thanks!

For the Center light we used 3 extra large daylight balanced compact fluorescent bulbs. We used RGB LED stage lights on a DMX controller for the walls and backlights.

Great job Lonny. Is this version the 1080p version? Its really sharp and smooth and I'd love to know what encoding settings you got going on here.
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
Thanks Giulio. Actually my 1080p transcode failed, so I switched back to 720p playback. I'll probably try to reconvert it again later tonight.

It's been a few months, but if i recall correctly, I exported this clip at 8000 Kb/second h.264 at 1080p. Considering it's 6 minutes and 380MB, those numbers seem to jive.

I've got these two clips set for 1080p

Those 1080p vids you got look great but they are a bit jumpy on my machine. I'm on a macbook pro 2.26ghz core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram.
  • Lonny Quattlebaum pro 2 years ago
Jumpy for me too a with a 2.4GHz Macbook & 2GB of RAM. Not sure if I'll change the playback settings on my other vids for the time-being. I'd rather them play back smoothly @ 720p.
