On Thursday 1 August, the NSW/ACT Alcohol Policy Alliance (NAAPA) was launched in Canberra by ACT Attorney General Mr Simon Corbell MLA.
The launch coincided with the release of the paper, Alcohol consumption and harms in the ACT.
The document found that just under half (44.5%) of ACT residents aged over 14 consume alcohol at levels that place them at risk of an alcohol-related injury from a single occasion of drinking, while one in five (19.5 per cent) consume at levels that place them at risk of lifetime harm.
The launch event also featured:
- An introduction to NAAPA, its members and goals by Mr Michael Moore from the Public Health Association of Australia.
- Ms Amy Ferguson from FARE, presenting on alcohol consumption and harms in the ACT.
- Chief Police Officer, Rudi Lammers who will provide a policing perspective.
- Closing remarks by Mr Ronan O’Connor from the Ted Noffs Foundation
