Cross-Cultural Dialogue Through the Arts, Documentary/EarSay
2 months ago
Cross-Cultural Dialogue through the Arts, develops and creates collaborations betweeen disparate communities. Conceived and directed by EarSay co-founder Judith Sloan, Cross-Cultural Dialogue Through the Arts (CCDTA) is a training and mentorship program for high school students to work under the direction of professional artists. CCDTA is currently offering a unique hands-on opportunity for graduate and undergraduate college students to work in teams as mentors and performance collaborators with new immigrant teenagers through a multimedia arts and theatre project at the International High School at LaGuardia Community College in Queens. Students from 50 different countries, speaking almost as many languages and dialects, populate the international high school. Many of the students come from war-zones or have been displaced by economic or natural disasters. A sister project to Crossing the BLVD, (CCDTA) is currently being led by actress/writer/radio producer Judith Sloan and hip hop educator and rapper Chenits Pettigrew (CHEN LO) and percussionist Ken White. EarSay received the Partnership in Education Award from the International High School in June 2009 for sustained excellence as an art partner since 2001. Teenagers rehearse and perform in the theatre at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center with the support of Steven Hitt, Managing Director of the LPAC.
