3. FAMOUS LAST WORDS - DEERHUNTER
This is a stop motion music video we made for the song "Famous Last Words" by Deerhunter.

Created by
Justin Martinez and Gilberto Vega

Paper cutout man played by Jesse Martinez.

Man on the couch played by Jorge Urbina.

Additional lyric art by Sunmin Lee

Special thanks to the following people for their help cutting out hundreds of tiny character prints.

Stacey Castillo
Roy Wageman
Jesse Martinez

Info about the project:

About three months in the making from concept to final video.

Shot on a Canon Rebel XS using Dragon Stop Motion Software.

Over 1,400 stills were shot.

Over 500 still images of Jesse were photographed, printed, then cut out one by one.

Dozens of lyrics were drawn, colored and cut out.

Many rolls of gaff tape were used.

We averaged about 5 seconds of animation per night, while working day jobs.

The electricity was done in After Effects, as well as some of the opening scene lighting.

    good job.
it was really time-consuming, wasn't it?
  • Cove Entertainment 1 year ago
It took us a couple months just to animate it. The cutouts also took quite a bit of time. It was about a 4 to 5 month process from start to finish. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi,

I'm a high school teacher and would like to use your video clip as inspiration for my students. They will create paper collages as a first step towards creating a movie poster (they're working on their own videos).

Can you send me a link to download your video? The school site restricts access to vimeo and youtube. Need the clip before Monday, 11/29. The use will strictly be for educational purpose.

Also if there's anything you want me to share with them about your process or using collage in filmmaking, feel free to let me know.

    Thanks!

    Lily

    Hi Lily,

Thanks for the interest in our video. I've made it so you can download the mp4 file. If you're on the video page, the download link is just above the video statistics. Let us know if there are any problems.

Tried to download the mp4 file but when I played it back on Quicktime, I only saw static, though audio came through fine. Please advise. Thanks!

Actually the video worked when I opened it with VLC Media Player. However, there are yellow streaks in the upper left corner throughout the video. ???

Sorry this is late. I downloaded the video right now and it worked fine for me on a completely different computer. Not sure what the problem could be. I wonder if it was something with your version of quicktime. Hope you got it to work in time. Take care.

i received a link to an avi file version via sendspace which played fine on my pc but couldn't play on a mac. do you know what plug-in must be installed to play an avi file on the mac? my presentation is tomorrow morning so if I can't figure it out before 9:30am, I'll just have to forgo it. thanks.
