Over the last several years, LeRoy CUSD #2 has worked hard to distinguish itself as an innovative and forward thinking school district. We continue to work under our mission of: involved community, competitive students, and productive citizens. But, you may be asking yourself what is next for LeRoy schools? To answer that question we must start by looking at the scope of what we do as a district to equip our graduates with what they need to compete in this ever-changing 21st century economy.
The LeRoy Right Start & Pre-K program will provide Creative Curriculum focused on constructive, purposeful and authentic learning experiences. All this will be done within the context of positive interactions in all of our student relationships at home, in school and throughout the community. Empowering our students for success and preparing them for transition into the LeRoy Elementary School...
Where the faculty will use backward design to prepare cross curricular units of study that are meant to create authentic & memorable project-based learning experiences for all learners. The students will then engage in rich mathematics instruction within a workshop model, allowing students to work outside the box of typical instruction, centered around a host of conversational & differentiated instructional methods. All of this will be built upon a firm foundation that has been set through our efforts in literacy. Our students will continue to exercise and grow in their ability to read, write and communicate.
This foundation will continue on into the LeRoy Junior High School where a literacy rich environment will continue and students will integrate this foundation into all facets of their learning. Here, faculty will again create authentic learning experiences through the practice of backward design, creating cross curricular units of study that will engage all learners. In mathematics students will work to apply math instruction rooted in the quest for discovery, students will focus on deeper thinking and understanding of math content and the various relationships and processes that exist which make math exciting.
Our district will also work to provide unique environments such as the LeRoy Preparatory Academy, which seek to find the right balance between right relationships and engaging learning experiences . This is done to help students who aren't as successful in the traditional environment; to grow, flourish and empower themselves and others to live a life worthy of respect.
Other students may benefit from our LeRoy Life Curriculum, which seeks to prepare students to live and work independently. This is done through the integration of functional academics; combined with opportunities for recreation and leisure to provide students a safe environment to develop their social skills.
With all of our programs the timeline ends with graduation and at LeRoy High School. Here, we will work to prepare students with effective oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to access and analyze information. We will instill a sense of curiosity and imagination and encourage them to think critically and solve problems. We will train them to collaborate across networks and lead by influence... All of this while being agile and adaptable to put them in a position to take initiative and be entrepreneurial. These skills will be fostered through authentic assessment and project-based learning, where our high school faculty will push our students to continually demonstrate their learning. This is all done, so that by the time they walk across our stage as high school graduates, they will be ready to compete in a complex global economy.
We are LeRoy Schools and we are excited about how far we have come and how far we will go in the years ahead.
