In recent years, Studio Dumbar has contributed to the Dutch Design Awards by means of a graphic style which was implemented on a number of items. In 2009, a more ambitious approach was taken. Studio Dumbar was responsible for the concept and art direction of the entire Award Show, and designed all related graphic items.

A Dutch design landscape was created, in which well-known designers found themselves playing roles such as trees, animals or other natural elements. The stage and sound design, during the Award Show, enhanced the concept. Short films introduced the categories, with poetic texts written by Studio Dumbar and narrated by Wim de Bie. The artistic set up of the show kept the audience intrigued and entertained for two hours, as well as enabling the Award winners to claim their moment of fame.
