Action Star

This sea star was placed in a shallow pool after being found on the sand. It displays great dexterity for an organism commonly thought of as rigid and bony. Echinoderms have many skills enabling them to live in intertidal zones. Did you know they have no brain and use filtered sea water for blood?

This time-lapse movie was made from about 370 still images taken over about an 15 minute period. No harm whatsoever came to this beautiful specimen.
