Jason Chen's videos (23)

I did this test shot on a local skywalk. The result was far better than my previous ones. One problem: battery drains after 1000 shots. I need to get around this if I want to take more.

Tell me what you think.

Very nice. I like it. I have some questions if you wouldnt mind. With what camera did you shoot it? and at what interval? What program do you use??? or do you manually take every single photo??

thanks and congrats for your video

It was taken with a Canon EOS D30 (not 30D, D30). It's an ancient model, but 3 megapixels is more than enough for shooting HD videos.

I used a timer remote manufactured by "Ownuser". Interval set to 2s, exposure 0.8s, put together with Quicktime and then edited in Vegas.

Thanks for comment and glad you like it.

High quality. I have been trying to decide to use my XTi for some timelapse videos or but a D30,20D or an XT and waste one of those shutters.

Thanks. It's a bit tricky to use D30 to shoot timelapse, because of the sluggish writing speed. Newer models, like 20D or XT would be a better choice.

  • Can I get results like this with my video camera? I use a Sony HDR FX1 and have seen a lot of these time lapse videos lately done entirely with still cameras. I would like to achieve this look with my video camera. I know it can be done by speeding up the footage but I feel like it is not as effective

Some video software and plugins have a "time remapping" abaility, you might want to try those.

Michael, if you're on a Mac, and watching your profile picture thing, I have a feeling you are, I suggest giving iStopMotion a try - you can connect your camera to your Mac and set the software into the desired settings, so that it captures a frame from your camera every minute, or hour, or whatever you want.

As for this video, it's really good - so stable when it comes to movement and overall lightning. Nice one!
  • The only bad thing about iStopmotion though is that I'm limited to using my desktop so I really cant move around outside or anything. I got rid of my laptop and bought a G5 desktop

Ya know... the 'movie' is cool, but you should get a newer camera with built in timer, like a Nikon.
Also there are camera battery packs that plug in to your battery compartment and give you 5X more shots... follow this link and search for your camera from the mfg: enjoyyourcamera.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=ownuser
    As an example above link.
The item is under : ownuser who mfg.

Yes, they're called 'battery grips'. Unfortunately, I have a limited budget. Buying one of those would cost me the money for another camera (I got my D30 for less than USD$200). Therefore I'm finding cheaper ways to do it.
