I drift, half awake, half asleep. Moving through the city I recall but have never been to.

"Architecture is the simplest means of articulating time and space, of modulating reality, of engendering dreams" Ivan Chtcheglov

This film was made using a digital stills camera to create a stop motion animation.

This video is an evolution of an earlier work/technique called Still Moving
vimeo.com/3619284

I think the shot of the Barbican tower is my favourite (its the shot shown in the thumbnail)

This was shot hand held no motion control rigs etc.

Come and see this at the east end film festival in the dalston Rio cinema

Here's a tut someone made on how to do this technique
vimeo.com/10522454

oh and here's another tut for it

    beautiful video....wow really :).

any tips on how you achieved the transition effect between pictures would be greatly appreciated. but no worries if not. imo if you refine this enough it'll make you huuge $$(not that its about the money, jus sayin)

kinda reminds me of real life rotoscoping

Fabulous effects and images. I'd love ot see this with some kind of music playing - something from Mr. Eno perhaps? I agree with your comment re the Barbican tower. Reckon you could do another great video using the same effects and filming only in the Barbican - with the three towers and all that dark grey concrete... The bakcing track would have to be Massive Attack :-) Thanks for this - great vid.

Excellent effect. Felt like the verge of a memory... like you were almost there.
I think I understand what you were trying to do with the sound of footsteps, but I found it distracting about a third of the way through.
Would love to see a follow up on how you did it.

I think audio is great, there is usually too much electro/lowfi/au revoir simone/ stuff in vimeo art video
  • Digitized Chaos 2 years ago
    i, too, liked the audio..
i, too am getting tired of the music that vimeo artsy videos have..
  • chaosdroid 2 years ago
I agree too... - finally a work where the audio layer is also a matter of creativity, and not of illustration..
  • Stephen Rangott 2 years ago
Fair enough, but the audio was distracting me from the video. I know the feeling the creator was going for but I personally didnt like it.
  • You have to appreciate the technical ability and originality behind this piece. Screw the audio the visuals were absolutely mind boggling never seen anything like it with stop motion.

Interesting technique and overall, a very well done video!
As a side note, I might add that it may cause viewers to feel a little nauseous. Strangely, I'm not sure if it was a change in the technique concerning the building areas or if was just an abrupt change in scenery, but I only felt that way around the buildings; the park was quite fine.

Extraordinary and beautiful and I love the night scene. The term psychogeography (the drifts of debord) is used alot these days but this captures its essence.
Why the negativity about the audio? It works perfectly.

I had a similar idea but I wanted to do it a bit different.

THen I found out the "crude" problem ... PERSPECTIVE. My perspective changes between movments (like doooh) so since then I'm trying to find a software who can "blend" the margins a bit.

Any idea about a software that can do this?

In all the comments above, I feel like its lacking one thing, the actual concept of the video, Most people don't know the fact that there are certain people in the world who always sees the world like this.......
Nice video to let us see the world through their vision....
Previously I only imagined it, but now when I see it, it seemed to be much more beautiful than I imagined.....

What a wonderful vision - just beautiful. I'm surprised at all the negative comments on the audio - this sound track just seems to fit so well, completely supporting the filmmaker's intent - so evocative.
  •
  • Sam Hankins 2 years ago
That was a breathtaking accomplishment. The contrast between the clean, earthy, unaffected audio and the luxurious blending of the images was a very powerful effect. I can't tell you how much pleasure that gave me.

Bloody amazin' It's probably the most creative morph I've ever seen. And what's ever more amazing than the output is the thought process and the planning you would've had to have put it to accomplish the visual in your head. And what a visualization!!! - ideasmaverick.com

The soundtrack sounds like squeaky wet sneakers . . . love it! Adds to the surreal, project your own fantasy quality. How did you do the stop motion animation? Very appealing in a low-tech kind of way in a world of over-designed Super Bowl graphics.
