I took my new Sony EX-1 for a spin in the Mount Washington Valley last weekend. There was more snow up there than I had seen in years. Sunday we went snowshoeing up to Lowe's Bald Spot where there were dramatic views of Wildcat and Mount Washington. It was a perfect winter wonderland.

Ben, very nice. Was this shot at the 35mbs HQ setting?

Mark, thanks. Always 35mbs, yes. Shot at 1080p24 except for the slo-mo shot at 720p60.

Some of the nicest footage I've seen Benjamin - thanks for letting me know, I really enjoyed that.

Benjamin, did you a 35mm adapter? If this is just the camera I think that is very impressive and makes me want to buy one right now.

No 35mm adapter. I have an excellent Brevis 35mm adapter but I didn't want to carry it around while I was snowshoeing. The 1/2" chips can produce nice shallow DOF though when properly controlled.

Some very nice work! Liked the shot of the moon against blue skies and snowscape.
Amazed at how the camera picks up the subtleness and hues of white against a backdrop of 'peak white' snow. (e.g. white fence against snow)

Great footage Benjamin, enjoyed it very much. Can I ask what you use to edit, you say you mixed 1080p24 with 720p60 (the slo mo section), can you mix these 2 on the same timeline on your edit system?
  • Benjamin Eckstein 7 months ago
Edited in FCP. Put all of it in a 1080p24 sequence. It then scales up the 720p stuff automatically. Conversely I could have, should have edited it all in a 720p sequence and been able to downsize/reframe the 1080 stuff, but, well, I wanted 1080 for no real reason. Final Cut Pro makes it all very easy.
