Do something rewarding for yourself and at-risk youth!
Through Backpacking for Kids, you raise funds, we give you $500 of gear donated by our generous sponsors, and then you hit the trail for an exciting experience in the California backcountry. The money you raise benefits teachers and youth workers with the training and free access to gear they need to help them get youth outdoors – most of them for the first time!

Bay Area Wilderness Training has been a solid part of the Bay Area outdoor world since its inception in 1999. Through its hard work, more than 30,000 youth have been afforded the opportunity to get outside and experience the outdoors firsthand. BAWT has grown to serve kids across Bay Area from its headquarters in Oakland, as a partner agency in the Camping at the Presidio (CAP) Program, and from its South Bay office in Milpitas. Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) is a non-profit that relies on donors and adventure fundraising programs like Backpacking for Kids achieve its mission.

BAWT is project of Earth Island Institute 501(c)3
