This stop motion animation is the product of my love for scale modeling, which I utilized in my Stop Motion Open Studio Class. I had a whole semester to make a short film. As the light rail runs by school, I decided to make that my subject.
Making a scale model of the light rail using card-stock and wood, I took a batch of photographs to capture my scenes frame by frame. These were filmed on a table with a huge afghan quilt for grass, model trees, and buildings I constructed out of card-stock. Dramatic sunlight on clear days, and a little overcast days provided the light and background. This allowed me to take highly dramatic photographs, and as the clouds moved as I worked, an element of passing time is created.
It was a lot of fun incorporating my personal interests into this project, where I was able to capture my creation in a system that was new to me, which I grew to enjoy producing.
