Nice footage! How did you get permission to film inside? and where?
About that corner thing, try turning your lens..it looks like your adapter isn't turned in frame all the way. Just keep rotating it until it's in frame. Just a small theory.

I just asked the corporate manager and he was happy to oblige
  • Rican Joe 4 months ago
I suppose that works. I wonder if I could try this at a local walmart.

    awesome video!
What's your 35mm adapter? and which lens?
  •
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
I had it handbuilt, and I utilize Nikon manuals, this one was a Nikkor E f1.8 50mm

Marvelous. Very enjoyable, great song, everything.

So TRUE. That's what makes it work.

But the vignetting is an annoyance. Whatever adapter you're using, it cuts off the edge of the light circle too close, and the dark shadows on the edges are visible in the 16x9 format.
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
Very true. This was something of a test shoot, and we found out the hard way that the HV20's LCD crops the image enough that I couldn't see half of the vignetting issue while shooting

    man.
    So true.
Just go with the softest...or the best smelling...I dunno

I can totally relate to this experience. I've settled on Dove as my current not-make-my-hair-worse-when-I-wash-it shampoo.
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
I have a friend who after the test screening said:

"I don't understand what men have a problem with. They always choose Dove anyways"

Great, however - your adapter is a little runed. Fix it next time.
  •
  • Jiri 5 months ago
    turned :)
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
Fixed :) I considered cutting the frame down in Shampou to get rid of the vignetting / ground glass issue but I had framed too tightly while shooting to really allow for that

Question: how you make footages where actors have face in front of camera (when they sniffing)? It's realy cool. Your camera was in the rack or what??! :) (sorry for my english, hope you understand...)
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
I just had them stand farther away (closer to the toilet paper racks). I kept focus very tight on the actor's faces so that the toilet paper would be out of focus, making it seem like the actors were closer than they really were.

AND ... question no 2 :) - What you told to boss of the shop? "I want to make a film, could I film here?" or what? :) It's practically question :)
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
I asked the regional manager if I could use one aisle early in the morning (6AM) and he was happy to oblige. We kept the crew small and we only had three actors.

I laughed. I mean I genuinely enjoyed this film. Although, I don't think I would have spent that much time picking out shampoo.

This gay-video, but this not cinema
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
    Cryptic.
  • Mariya Kozlova 5 months ago
It is criticism. I did not like your cinema! Why? Very slowly. The ending is easy for predicting. I did not like camerawork. You the talented person, but it only a sketch, not cinema. You understand my English? I very badly speak English.
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
I understand. I felt that in the end the film did not have much in the way of dynamics, it is somewhat flat throughout.
  • Mariya Kozlova 5 months ago
I am glad, that you have correctly understood me. Let's be friends)))

Two camera setup? A lot of camera angles, more than the usual, so that's why you got me wondering... Oh, and what song was that? Name or artist, please? Thanks!
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
Only one camera, and three hours of principal photography.

Well Well... girls have the same problem, I think... well coz I do! Too many choices. But I like Herbal Essences especially the conditioner because it smells sooo soooo good and it makes my hair super soft! I don't like other conditioners that doesn't really do any smoothing.

The toilet paper part is also true!!! I spend a lot of time deciding which can save me more. HAHA!

I agree with Aravind, it should have been a little shorter, but I didn't mind that much, and enjoyed myself throughout (except for the adapter problem, which other people have mentioned already).

    What's the song?
  • Damon Stea 5 months ago
    Ponteio by Astrud Gilberto

Damon... That made me feel awkward. Probably because it makes me think that everything I buy somehow revolves around girls. But I have learned that when all else fails you can never go wrong with Herbal Essences. I enjoyed that quite a bit. I don't know a lot about film so I can't offer any critiques, but still. I really like grocery isles for some reason...

i wish i had the luxury of being knowledgeable enough to criticize you, but you wont need to worry about that here! i just plain liked it. it is what it is, and it is a finished work. i enjoy many of your videos, and this one is no different! also i know something about getting shampoo, cause i donate my hair whenever it gets long enough, so i keep it in good condition for the kids!

All it's really meant to do is entertain. To me it's beautiful, but it's really just meant to make the viewer smile, not necessarily make you think deeply about your life :)

    Hey Damon,
Really really fun short. Great comedy, great comic timing, really funny ending. I certainly plan on watching some more of your work.

That wasn't the grocery store in University Village, was it? And by the way, Fight On.
  • Damon Stea 21 days ago
It was in fact (special thanks to superior in the credits). Fight on Man.
  • Nathan Sage 21 days ago
Oh right on, man. I guess I wasn't paying attention in the credits.
