A majority of Bridgewater councillors agreed by motion to task town staff to advertise for tenders to sell the King Street library property. The decision to put the south King Street land and building on the market comes weeks after a failed attempt to negotiate a lease with a non-profit group. The library building becomes vacant this year when the library moves to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in the town’s business park to become the Margaret Hennigar Public Library. Supporters of tendering are optimistic a prospective developer sees the value in the property and also have faith that the business community will proceed appropriately, but one councillor who voted against the motion believes it’s a missed chance to keep the landmark in public hands.
