A week before they returned to school, ASPIRA teachers and staff were joined by parents, students, and community supporters for a rally and public speaking event, capped off by a theatrical “Back to School” drive for ASPIRA charter schools. The “drive” was intended to demonstrate that the ASPIRA staff and administration could accomplish more for their students by working together and negotiating a union contract.
“We’re ready to bring back to school everything we and our students need to be successful,” said Olney Charter
High School Theater Teacher Emily Guck. “That’s why we’re forming a union: to advocate for our students.”
