Black transitions of a pram-pusher keep Sonia’s Richard Ashcroft doppelganger moving, hopefully, as a creative and original urban tribute to the classic Bitter Sweet Symphony.

Worked all night re-editing our Bitter Sweet clip with new black transitions every other frame, brand new music mix, aspect ratio, title boards and a few new cuts. Tried to make deadline. Posted Eastern Standard Daylight Saving Time 6:18AM Australia-28 October, (should still be right in US?). This is specifically for Vimeo Weekend Project, The Black Transitions. If anywhere near ok enough for any prize consideration, please give to Vimian, Sonia Mansour.

I really liked the video and animation. However, just as a bit of personal preference, I would have preferred to have less repetition. I feel that you could have done a perhaps even more powerful piece by limiting it to just a couple of minutes, and using each shot just a couple of times at most.

These are just my views, in my work I prefer to use each shot only once. However, it was a great song and still very nicely done.

Sasha, ur views invaluable. I agree, but this is interpretation of Vimeo Black Transitions Brief on their Staff Blog for this final cut. Primary repeat is Black Transition Fade Out and In of Lady Pushing Pram. Idea was to create a method for transitioning action by cutting when LPP actually appears to physically cover or obscure a camera, allowing to cut to another scene that starts with a camera seemingly covered, but with Continuity of LPP. So as to run with the concept based on original famous music clip. A bit like how “French Cassoulet” in the Vimeo Brief ran with their’s, with the guy finally leaving the building. The animation of Richard Ashcroft is jump cut repeated to have a dialogue with his real self and that of his original epic (uncut) song.

I could have definitely made more powerful in two minutes, but still with Black Transition Fades as per Vimeo Brief. (But less repeats, I agree ^_^)

That's brilliant advice for Chris, Sasha. I know he highly regards your filmmaking. Did you see the Vimeo Black Transitions Brief? I know a lot of UK Filmmakers & they all say his "black transition" part was spot on with more innovation than just standard fades, but agree 2 minutes would have won it!

Thx Rick 'n Sasha. Ironic that 24hrs no sleep cracks a brief, but 48hrs cld have made shorter. I luv Vimians-So inspiring-Wot can I cut nxt? ^_^

I saw your other Bittersweet Symphony video, and I have to say, I thought it was even more powerful. I guess sometimes longer does not always mean better! Cheers on a work well done.

Me & all my colleagues lke both Bitter Sweet versions & Mike Kobal & bartleby. Black Transitions Staff Brief has now changed after comp? So how come they were allowed on the weekend project vimeo channel “during comp” & Black Bitter Sweet Transitions only afterwards, Sasha? Seems unethical, Sasha? (I’ll try & email you about this, in case Vimeo Staff do not post or cannot answer me).
