Random/Access is a book I designed for media artist Nam June Paik. The book was designed in an Advanced Graphic Studio class taught by Brad Bartlett at Art Center College of Design.
This book looks at Nam June Paik through the lens of media theory, which he wrote about extensively. Random/Access collects imagery of Paik's installation and performance art as well as some of his writings and essays, which really help to frame the ideas behind the work.
note: A process of image mediation, in keeping with this lens of media theory, was used to generate the introduction and afterlude of this book. In many cases I used my iPhone, to photography my computer screen, which was playing a youtube video that someone else had mediated into the electronic ether, which of course had originally been mediated by somebody else onto vhs tape. This idea of a message being mediated through many facets of the electronic landscape, each being controlled by a human being is key to the idea behind Random/Access.
