On the way back to Cincinnati from the south, we took a short side trip and found this old working grist mill in Tennessee. I was very pleased to see that it was working. Once I walked in the door where the works are I got so excited to see all the hand carved wood gears. It was like being inside of a giant wooden pocket watch! Once the operator channels water to fall on the paddle wheel, it starts turning the gears. The building rumbles and it springs to life. You follow the back stairs to the upper level where the stones turn to grind what ever you need into a fine powder. As awesome as it is now, imaging how this must have looked to folds 100 years ago when automobiles were not even heard of. Norris Dam State Park is a state park in Anderson County and Campbell County, Tennessee
