Erto's mother Catherine talks about his treatment for clubfoot.
Maggie Kraft contacted STEPS SA when she met Catherine and 18-month-old Erto who had neglected clubfoot. He was not walking at all.
STEPS arranged treatment for Erto with a Ponseti doctor in Johannesburg, and raised funds for travel and sustenance.
Local Botswana supporters coordinated Catherine and Erto's travel arrangements.
They went to Johannesburg every two weeks for casting until he was ready for a tenotomy. The tenotomy was done pro bono in Gaborone by a private doctor who had trained at Wits Medical School.
Erto now walks and runs like any other little boy his age, and Catherine is ecstatic with the results of the treatment.
In June 2013 STEPS arranged the first Ponseti training in Botswana so that other children like Erto can have their clubfoot diagnosed and successfully treated.
