I was creative director and writer on this spec video for a coalition of global brands -- Prada, Versace, Swatch, Tifffany, Dior, Benetton, Guess, Louis Vuitton, Hilfiger, Rolex, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Coach, Chanel, Ray-Ban, et al -- gathering in Washington, D.C. to discuss ways to combat the damage to brands worldwide by brand pirates who produce and steal fraudulent goods and apply fake brand logos to them for massive sale on the black and sidewalk-vendor market. The thing is, it's more than a personal decision of whether or not you're ok with wearing a fake Gucci or Prada...it ought to make you think first if you really want to be a knowing participant in a blood-soaked economy that's fueled by extortion, kidnapping, and murder....in other words, a way heavier moral dilemma than "just" condoning the stolen property and lost revenue, unemployment, and ruined lives from the ripples of an "innocent" purchase of an item you know is a fake. It ought to make you think: Fake goods kill real people.
