LATEST NEWS 2012; 9thinfantrydivision.net/articles2.htm
Three minute trailer for an independent documentary, (still in progress 2012), about the invasion of North Africa 1942-43. Featured are more than 35 interviews with American and German veterans from world-wide searches, relevant to the story. All are in their late 80's, early 90's. *Some have since passed. Their stories, (only glimpses), could very well be the last we see from a generation who sacrificed so much to save humanity from a global crisis of catastrophic proportion.
The re-creations, (accented by period & content correct archival footage), are based on actual testimonies. The project was inspired by personal journals from the producer's father. The story follows the experiences of Army and Navy veterans, with a focus on the 9th Division, (some of whom were aboard AP-59). The troop transport was torpedoed and run aground during Operation Torch on November 7th 1942.
This project is primarily the work of 'one' filmmaker-producer-historian, who occasionally receives help from a few reliable film people. The film is dedicated to the WWII veterans in the story, and to ALL veterans.
Support team; Toni Fraticelli, Leilani Goode, (Line Producer), Rob Coccagna, Kurt Eberling, Ted Dyer, GT, Geoff Morris, and a few others. Matt Carroll's 9th Division Reenactment group have recently joined the project. The hundred or more WWII reenactors have been the backbone of the project, and the veterans have become family.

It's very important for us to document these stories, to remember the tragedy and triumph of the war.
Good job! I'm looking forward to seeing more updates on your progress of the documentary.
And you have proven that being a young artistic filmmaker, doesn't necessarily mean you may not have an appreciation for factual material. Thank you for your recognition of our veterans; their sacrifices, and their stories. It's refreshing indeed to have your enthusiasm.
Additionally, as they are aging, our soldiers and Holocaust Survivors are loosing their ability to repress the horrors they have seen and experienced. Everyone who knows or works with senior citizens should be aware of their history so that we can take good care of our heroes.
Thank you for your kind remarks.
You sure do bring to light some sad facts; One of the veterans in the story, (a close friend of 4 years), can no longer talk about his experiences without feeling intense pain. His PTS has never been addressed.
I pray for all of these men.
Rivoting! Great job!
From seeing your wonderful work, it's obvious you're an artist, and a great composer.
Let me know if I can be of assistance to you in any way?
Mike
And my best to you always as you document these stories as well. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you in any way.
Mike
Being from a generation that has less connection to the events of WWII, I thank you for bringing these stories and lost parts of history to us and the generations to come!
I strive for accuracy, and factual representations.
I'm very pleased and encouraged by your youthful critique. So we have hope, (at least some younger filmmakers), will also see the importance of 'WWII Fact', rather than 'Fiction'.
Thanks for the comment on my Mat Braun video, we are very proud of him. Your trailer is amazing, well done. Like yourself and so many people our age our dads or uncles fought in WWII and we will never know the sights and pain they endured. I plan on doing a short story on Mat Braun soon and hope to have something within a few months. I will keep an eye on your projects, superb job. Let us know when your documentary is complete, I wouldn't miss it.
I sure will keep you posted on the progress of the project.
And I'll be looking for Mat Braun's video. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you.
I believe we're both in Philly? Yes I may ask you for some advice.
I viewed some of your trailers, very appealing stuff indeed!
Thanks so much for posting here, and providing your encouragement!

Alas you confront the documentarian's dilemma, that of finding the balance between giving some relief to people through enabling them to leave an account of their experiences versus causing them to relive events they might otherwise not want to recall.
Good luck in your race against time. Your project will be worthy at its conclusion.
Thank you! - Your Ole Pal - Mike

Absolutely stunning. As a fellow photographer for military, veterans and WWII Historical preservation I appreciate and support what you are doing. Your work shown in this trailer is moving and I look forward to the finished documentary. The stories from the greatest generation need to be told and I'm thankful that many WWII veterans are finding more of a willingness to share details about the enormous war they faced and the lasting effects emotionally. Some of my greatest friends are WWII veterans, who I've had the pleasure to photograph and I feel lucky to know them. I think that your filming and how you put this together in the trailer reallly brings out the "realness" of it all. It is a comfort to know that there are those out there such as yourself who also dedicate themselves to preserving the history and stories for future generations. Hooyah!
When wonderful comments like yours are posted, it makes all the difference in the world knowing that this work is being recognized and appreciated. I visited your site and I must say it's very impressive; a first class, high quality tribute to our veterans. I commend you and support you.

Here are some photos and clippings I managed to scan from my Father's albums. survnet.com/ss/index.html
Thanks again for making this all happen. I will try to follow your progress. Cheers to you and all the brave souls this is about!
First off, let me thank you for your wonderful compliments. These are the kind of comments that keep me going. In fact I'm taking off on another road trip to Ohio to interview yet another veteran in the story.
I know exactly what you mean about wanting to capture these stories before it's too late. I'm also planning a trip to Germany, (my first time). I'm hoping to interview a few surviving Afrika-Korps veterans.
I visited your site and was very impressed with the photos that you posted from your Dad's album. I commend you on such a great effort. We have a lot in common.

Always wonderful to read comments such as yours. Folks like yourself bring needed new vitality to this project. It's a lot of work trying to track these veterans, to see if they're still alive, and willing to share their stories. Just the other day, I visited a 94 year old man in MD who didn't want me to leave after the interview.
They all know their time on earth is limited. It's very difficult for me when I say goodbye.

I must say however, your father left you with a rare and most beautiful gift! I've scanned through hundreds of hours of archival footage, and NEVER have I seen such pristine Kodachrome and very touching indeed.
Long live the Greatest Generation!
I enjoyed your clip as well, and thank you for the tribute.
Happy Holidays!
Mike
Thanks for your comments on my "As Promised" promo.
Just watched your trailer. Really excellent work. Very riveting and I liked reenactments.
Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's done.

Appreciated your comments on my POW film. Just an amateur project. Your trailer looks great. Is the film completed yet?

Thanks for your words of praise. Please keep me posted about your work.

I am about 80% complete on a second video that recognizes the hundreds of forgotten airfields built in the UK for WWII. Stay tuned and keep me posted on your efforts for this exceptionally valuable project to permanently recognize the importance of this history!
Cheers!
