On Thursday April 11, 2013 Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed media in the wake of the Boston Marathon terrorist attacks. His remark, 'now is not the time to commit sociology', was in response to Liberal leader Justin Trudeau's suggestion that governments need to address the root causes of terrorism instead of merely reacting to attacks with further military interventions.
The Prime Minister's remark also established a problematic for sociologists to struggle with, as the Canadian government moves further away from evidence-based policy making in several areas, such as health, the environment, and criminal justice. Check out commitsociology.ca for more info.
