Highlights of the 2009 California Capital Airshow, featuring the United States Air Force Thunderbirds.* Video taken September 13th, 2009, with my Canon HF100 camera. The event was held at Mather Field in Rancho Cordova.
I had a couple of things going against me in taking video there. First and foremost, inexperience. I've had this camera for about seven months and am still learning the different modes and settings. I've never been to an airshow before and didn't know exactly how to video such an event. So, it was a lot of trial and error that day.....mostly error. Second, it was a very windy day and got quite a bit of wind noise and a little shaking now and then, even on a tripod. I didn't want to put music to my footage because, after all, part of the experience of an airshow is the sound of the planes and narration. So, wind noise couldn't be avoided. I know if I am lucky enough to attend another one of these amazing airshows, I will do much better since I have learned from my mistakes. I hope you can still enjoy some parts of this video despite my camera work. The Thunderbirds were exciting to watch, and even the precision of the ground crew preparing for the flight was interesting to see. It was an AMAZING event! Very cool and very LOUD!
*UPDATE: Slightly longer version, showing more of the precision of the Thunderbirds ground crew. Had to replace some audio also. Hopefully haven't degraded the quality much.
