In France, more than one million people live in substandard housings. Whether they be tenants or impoverished owners, whether they be housed in an insalubrious apartment, a run-down house or a makeshift housing, they live without the slightest comfort and often put their life in danger.
Through the portraits of five persons who were accompanied by the “SOS Taudis” program of the Abbé Pierre Foundation, this photographic film shows the complexity and the fragility of the social and human situations that are included in the notion of “substandard housing”; This sensitive approach shows that an efficient fight against slums implies helping the people to rebuild their life as much as helping them rebuilding their environment.
