This short film was shot in Iceland, and with an accompanying essay it recently won a Penguin Books competition, which saw me hired by Penguin as a Summer Wayfarer - possibly the best job title ever! The idea was to promote Penguin author Robert Macfarlane's book 'The Old Ways' by entering into the spirit of what his book is about - walking the layers of story held in the landscape. The job saw me travel Britain on foot throughout the summer with no itinerary, being led only by people I met on the way. I wild camped, I was taken in by strangers, I saw the summer turning with each hedgerow I passed, and experienced the best weather in many many years. Most importantly of all, I experienced day in day out, just how kind people are when given the opportunity.
I wrote about the journey as I went, on a blog ajourneyonfoot.com
