Kristen Hassebrook of the Nebraska Cattlemen spoke at a roundtable discussion at the College of St. Mary in Omaha on September 3, 2013 titled "Why Nebraska Needs Immigration Reform." Hassebrook said the outdated U.S. immigration system does not work for Nebraska's farmers and ag producers which employ many immigrant employees. A common-sense immigration system with a path to citizenship would bring stability to Nebraska businesses, she said.
"If you ate a meal today, you should care about our immigration system because there is a 100 percent chance that an immigrant laborer was part of growing, harvesting, processing, or preparing that meal for you," Hassebrook said.
