I've never learned that much about denim in a segment of 10 minutes before in my life.

Fantastic work gentlemen. One of these days I'm going to get around to learning how to dress like an adult... This video could very well be my first step into that larger world.
  •
  • Matt Volk plus 2 years ago
I really enjoyed that and I learned a little something, too. Off to find some APC jeans.

Jesse, there's this product called Tilex. For the next time you do a shoot in your shower...
  • Put This On plus 2 years ago
Boinx, that was my shower (Adam's, not Jesse's), and I wouldn't dare use Tilex because it would only disrupt the piss patina I've meticulously handycrafted for that sought-after period look. (ProTip: For "faux piss patina" in half the time, rub some feces in your tile!)
  • boinx 2 years ago
LOL! Thanks for clearing Jesse's good name; And for the faux urine tips.

Sandwich is a lot more wee than I imagined.

Beautiful, wonderful work at a time that I so desperately need advice to stop dressing like a hobo.

Great web series. It reminds me of the Esquire tips that used to air on MojoHD this should totally be picked up as a tv show.

went from getting clothes from a church basement to making $500 jeans, seriously??
  • lonelysandwich 2 years ago
I know, right?! It's pretty inspirational—someone who's come from a relative lack of something very essential, and eventually attaining a mastery of the craft of making that thing. That's what you mean, right? Yeah, that's what you mean.

Great show. What was it shot on? Looks great!
  • lonelysandwich 2 years ago
Thank you, Scott. Mostly shot on Panasonic HPX150, with a little help from our old friend the Canon HV20 on B camera. And snot on the lens.

Wow! Probably the greatest video i will ever come across relating to jeans which are, if I don't say so myself, my favourite genus of pant. Two questions: Was that guy in character? What program did you use to edit?
  •
  • Jesse Thorn plus 2 years ago
Thank you for the kind words everybody!
  •
  • elichrusos 2 years ago
I enjoyed this thoroughly despite neither being a man, nor being the kind of woman who likes to look at them.
  • Jesse Thorn plus 2 years ago
A lady who likes ladies friend of mine told me, "this makes me want to go back to dressing like a boy!"
  •
  • very interesting but i'm pretty sure i will never be the guy who gives his jeans a bath or spends more than $40, tops, on a pair of jeans. My weapon of choice these days is the new Gap line, which fits well and can be easily found for a discount.

Question: Can you explain what you mean by "raw" denim? Does that simply mean jeans that aren't prefaded/destructed, or does it mean something else?
  •
  • …also, I meant to add, I'm looking forward to when you start discussing more dressed-up issues like ties, suits, etc. as this info will probably be more helpful to me.

and: it's more useful to most people, I would suspect, to find out about quality products that are a little bit affordable, rather than stuff that seems to be marketed more to Saudi princes.
  •
  • could you at some point discuss how to pick out a garment by looking at the quality of the fabric and stitching? ok, i'm done flooding your thread… for now
  •

Great episode. Every man in my life is having this link sent to them YESTERDAY.
I'd love to see a segment about how to have a discerning eye while shopping men's vintage.

You all do realize that there's something a little weird about spending hundreds of dollars to look like a coal miner, right? Just sharing the perspective of a normal person...

    Regardless, very well done!
  •
  • bismarck44 1 year ago
You DON'T soak your jeans after you bought them. Cause every contact with water will cause loosing some of the indigo.
  • Put This On plus 1 year ago
Right, but you will have to wash them eventually, and they will shrink. So if you want SICK FADEZ, you shrink them first so that the fade lines are the same before and after washing.
  • Thomas Tymstone 3 months ago
This is very true... what PTO said. If you wash STF jeans after you've worn them for two months the FADEZ and whiskering will not look like they came from you/// and no one wants jeans that you paid for to look like you borrowed them from a smaller friend.

"the color of a man's belt should roughly match the color of his shoes." Love the Django quotes!

  • Ashley 10 months ago
Totally nitpicking... but is it me or is Jesse's bath-tub completely revolting?
  • lonelysandwich 10 months ago
It's true. Jesse Thorn's bathtub, which he doesn't clean ever, in the house in which Jesse Thorn lives with his dirty bathtub, is unclean and revolting. Gross, Jesse Thorn and his dirty bathtub, which belongs to Jesse Thorn and definitely not Adam.
  • Ashley 10 months ago
Alllllrighty then.... maybe it's Adams? Either way, pretty gross and I'm not sure how jeans/people can come out of it feeling clean.
  • lonelysandwich 10 months ago
You'd be surprised what you can accomplish when you don't rub yourself up against the tiles of the decades-old bathtub you're standing under brand-new water in.

any info available on the boots worn at 07:50 in this video?
  •
  • Daraul Harris 4 months ago
gotta say: i love this :)
  •
  • Thomas Tymstone 3 months ago
Almost everything was on point... that I sent the link to some friends already... the only beefs I have are with Adams in between advice. Shoes and belt don't have to match anymore unless your over 50/ The shirt one... OK I give on that one/ but double denim is kind of hot and has been for a while now.
But over all 9 out of 10 I'll subscribe and keep watching.
