One of this year's headliner's of the 2013 Detroit Jazz Festival was Grammy Award Winning Guitarist Bill Frisell. This year he played a tribute to the legendary John Lennon which featured Jenny Scheinman, Greg Leisz, Tony Scherr, and Kenny Wollesen.

This year he released his new CD "Big Sur" on the OKeh Records label and he wrote the music as he sat by himself at the Glen Deven Ranch in Big Sur, California. Frisell was commissioned by the Monterey Jazz Festival to write and perform music for the event. It took him less than 10 days to write the music which features on the new CD.

Throughout Bill's career, he's recorded extensively as a leader playing all forms of American Roots Music ranging from the blues, jazz, folk, and Avant Garde. He made his debut on drummer Paul Motian's "Psalm" CD on ECM Records which also featured the debut of saxophonist Joe Lovano.
