Tomas van Houtryve of Panos Pictures has traveled across three continents photographing communism today. What has kept communism alive in some places - even expanded it in others - after it's spectacular nosedive nearly 20 years ago? Is it the steely fist of totalitarianism, new utopian dreams, or merely nostalgia from selective memories that continue to breath life into Marx's ideology? In these scattered places, communism has held on, mutated and adapted to the 21st century.
