The Devon Rock Lab at the University of Oklahoma is the most sophisticated of its kind. Using an electron microscope and other advanced technologies adapted from the biomedical field, geologists and engineers can view shale rock like never before, giving the company an edge in evaluating prospective plays. The need for this type of lab arose in 2004, when Devon became the world leader in shale production through its operations in the Barnett Shale of North Texas. The Devon Rock Lab was created through a partnership with engineers and scientists at OU. The lab allowed Devon to produce more efficiently and gave the company a greater return for shareholders. Devon now uses the lab's molecular technology to research new projects across North America.
The Culture of Achievement series highlights Devon's history through stories from our executives, managers and employees. The videos illustrate the company's values, character and achievements.
