Myanmar Emerges is a year-long GlobalPost investigation into challenges facing Myanmar's nascent democracy. Part Two of the series, Oppression Economics highlights economic challenges to Myanmar's grand experiment with liberalization.

Mock Stars gives a glimpse into a Burmese phenomenon known as "copy tracks." Not to be confused with covers, a copy track is a song built from western hits, but with unrelated Burmese lyrics. For decades, artists and advertisers have been using Western songs on the radio and on television, however most Burmese have been cut off from the outside world for so long, they have no idea their favorite tracks are actually songs from top 40 western artists.
