I made this small film in november 2005 in order become familiar with the "KunstWerk" in Cologne. Giovanna Pisacane, a former colleague of mine from when I worked in TV, was the producer of this clip. We completed it at the beginning of 2006 and then decided to make an even bigger documentary.
It is such an interesting and original building;
home to more than 150 different artists. We felt it definitely deserved more than just 10 minutes of film.
Later on I started filming the documentary in summer 2007, producing it on my own. In addition, I got some financial sponsorship from SK Stiftung Kultur. They appreciated this clip a lot although they usually don`t support shootings.
I decided I needed to spend some time at the Kunstwerk Cologne and actually lived in one of the studios for a while. This helped me to get to know the daily rountine of some artists and I also became familiar with nearly every corner in the building. My aim was to reflect
the atmosphere of the place in my film and not just cast a superficial glance at it.
It was the right decision and I am glad I managed to
portray this unique art-factory in an authentic and exciting way.
