The third episode of Pioneers of THIRTEEN, narrated by Parker Posey, showcases many of the groundbreaking shows THIRTEEN broadcast in the ‘80s.

The '80s saw many firsts at THIRTEEN, from the first films by award-winning filmmakers Ang Lee, Spike Lee, and Jim Jarmusch; to Longtime Companion, the first feature film to take a close look at AIDS; to Style Wars, the first portrait of hip hop culture.

THIRTEEN’s ‘80s highlights also include amazing performances by Mikhail Baryshnikov and Savion Glover; The MacNeil Lehrer Newshour’s compelling interviews with Ayatollah Khomeini and Fidel Castro; Nam June Paik’s video art extravaganzas featuring Al Franken and David Bowie; and visionary films like Koyaanisqatsi and The Times of Harvey Milk.
