“WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?” It’s a short documentary by Jr.canest (me), it was my final project for Vancouver Film School, I decided to explore a whole new area that I always wanted to explore; Documentaries. So after working a lot in front of the computer creating mostly motion graphics I thought it was a great opportunity to explore this area of film-making.
I’ve been always interested in people’s different opinions and point of views, especially what we as human beings think about our little world and what better question than ask people what they think the problem in the world is and not just that but also, if they gave me an answer, ask them if they have a solution for that problem or if they have been doing something about it and that is what this documentary is about. The objective was to show people’s different point of views and put the question out there to people think about and maybe start doing something.
During the process I learned a lot, I used my friend’s camera, the audio was not good but I had to work with it, I interviewed more than 50 people around Vancouver (and surroundings in BC, Canada) and Seattle, WA (USA), some people refused to speak in front of the camera but they talked to me anyways… I was surprised that almost every single one of the people that I approached had something to say about the subject, another interesting fact is that our point of view of the problem in the world is (in most cases) defined by our environment, the people around us, our social status, etc… is this the way it should be? Or maybe that is another problem, we don’t think outside our reflective and selfish bubble.
The project was finished on November 09.
Thanks for all the people that helped for the project and especially all those were in front of the camera and they were willing to be part of the project.

GREAT JOB
I'd like to comment on the message, but I think I need more time to think about it for myself. At least I am now thinking about the questions you've asked, and isn't that a start?
The visual style of the animations is great, and the music brings it together. The narration, "And just then we came to the end of this record" and graphics have a vinyl feel to them.
What techniques, audio wise, did you use to achieve this retro, old radio style aesthetic?
But i have to say that communism and the empty-not- clear socialism ideals are a problem too (and i can say it properly) why? because when something doesn't have a clear content the leaders can say everything on it and make things at they will, for example a socialist president who buy too expensive clothes and travels in luxury cars while poor people still starving in his country -and the president says that he is socialist-.
so, i think that we need to be more honest about ourself, i mean: yes i want to have money, i want to live good, i want to get this and that, BUT i can help others (doesn't matter if they're rich or poor), and help isn't something about money, it can be something small like writing and answer questions -maybe in a blog-, making a movie -or a documentary-, speaking with random people, solving small problems; be more human and less cold people.
Being rich or poor isn't the problem, is the way how we interact with eachother fighting for ideals that are too far away from reality, i think love and friendship are things that can solve tiny problems, and many tiny problems solved may create the big solution... i don't know but i think so.
what a cool documentary, mauricio, it made me smile and think :)
*that's the THING*
Its so inspirational!!
One can make a difference if one acually tried. Instead of just waiting to see some one else to do it, we should all step up to the plate and do it ourselves!
GOD Bless!

The problem is: "Individuell rasjonalitet fører til kollektiv irrasjonalitet" Which is individual rationality becomes collectively irrationality which is what we all are doing. We are trying to maximize our own preferences which leads to collectively suicide - Adam Smith -
