Not to say this in a negative way. But it looks very much like Borderlands game. Same kind of style of animation, bus looks very similar as well.
  • John Gosling 2 years ago
Not negative at all: this came out *before* borderlands. They were already asked about it (especially as the intro scene is a helluva lot like the intro for borderlands), and they mentioned that yes, they did draw inspiration from Codehunters.
  • Henry Klein 2 years ago
I was just about to say the same thing!
  • Alex Onfire 2 years ago
Same thought, the intro was very Borderlands-ish. What with the bus with the slotted windows and all. characters wer simliar as well. Hunter, Brute psycic chick.

    Great video none the less!

But all art has its inspirations :)

Just to clear this all up, we made Codehunters with Ben in 2006... way before Borderlands looked the way it does.

The folks who made Borderlands have admited they were 'influenced' by Codehunters. See the official line here bit.ly/8MN2Sr

Judge for yourself how much the 'influence' applies.
  • Tom Robbins 2 years ago
Wow, yeah I didn't know what this was when I clicked it, I thought it was footage of the new borderlands expansion for the first minute until I realized that wasn't the case. (thought it was a new character or something)

That's kind of depressing how they copied this insanely distinct visual style to the most minute detail.
  • Ligia Muraro 1 year ago
I still like the game better. If it is to improve, why not?
Dont you already inspired yourselves and copied the comic book's style to make it into an animation?
They copied your animation to make it into a game.
    So again, why not.

Absolutely gob smackingly gorgeous. All of you are truly talented. You've created one hell of a story line, set of characters and an entire world/universe which simply seems endless with stories and content.

Games, movies, comics... they could all be produced from such a setting.

    Excellent work, well done.

    Hello vimeo community, I would
like to introduce you to my mathematical method.
I have already earned a lot of
money with this method. In my opinion it is
the best way to make money on the Internet.
Just look at my profile, there you'll find

This played at a film festival I used to help out at a couple of years ago. It looked even better shown on a full sized cinema screen.

It didn't win but it was probably the most talked about film of the night. Good work.
  •
  • Jacob Schmiedicke 2 years ago
Sorry, this was not a stand alone film. It was basically a montage of cool shots and slick animation. But at the end I'm still like, "Um, wtf was that about?" Was this supposed to be an intro to a longer film or a series or is this a sequel or what? Not impressed, beyond the technical and aesthetic skill of the creators.
  • axisanimation pro 2 years ago
Check this video to hear Ben describe the purpose of the film and why its not an A to B narrative vimeo.com/7438218
  • Jacob Schmiedicke 2 years ago
Um, okay, so it's meant to be an intro to a movie. But it doesn't prove you can tell a good story. Just that you can make japanese-looking animation and badass action scenes. Shouldn't there be some kind of hook, so at the end I should want to see more? But instead at the end I don't even have an inkling as to what is going on or what just happened. Too much murkiness can alienate an audience right from the begining. I couldn't really care less if there is a feature film, because this was uninteresting.
  • Daniel Sake 1 year ago
You couldn't understand the purpose of the film, man. This is very narrow minded of you.
  • Jacob Schmiedicke 1 year ago
Well, judging from all the other comments I am alone in my opinion. So please, in an effort to be open-minded, explain the purpose of the film to me.
  • Leo Marthaler 1 year ago
Great graphic style and animation, love it !

The story makes no sens though. I just read this was not the purpose of this montage, but I would like more depth into a trailer.
A mix of Gunnm / DBZ / Cowboy Bebop / Gorillaz just for the sake of mixing those atmospheres together.. I want to see more into the trailer because I sadly don't want to watch the movie any more.
That's the hard thing about internet: People have very little patience, very little. If you cannot entertain them during the first 30 sec, you won't in 10 minutes.
From my point of view, the lack of talking makes the story telling suffer a lot.
Also, I think the sound design is ok but not good enough for the kind of atmosphere you want to achieve.

But this animation is definitely awesome !
    Keep it !
Feel free to correct my filthy english.

This should be a movie! (all my friends say so too)
And you really should be getting money from them Borderlands guys. 'Tis a bit more then just inspiriation.
I don't like suing, but in that case: you have earned more then just the respect for creating such a great world and look.
