Two years after the 2011 Tohoku tsunami and earthquake, all Ishinomaki’s fishing ports and aquaculture facilities were damaged and large amounts of government funds have been poured into the restoration of the fishing industry.
Yet, the outlook for some employers remains uncertain, as they are beset with prolonged infrastructure reconstruction, debt, and deep-seated radiation fears surrounding the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, some 140 km away.
A group of students from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, talk to experts, fishermen and business owners to investigate the pressing problems of restoring a tsunami-ravaged business.
