  • Beautifully shot, very Tarr and great use of Radiohead, one of my favourite tracks by them.
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
wonderful track, innit? i don't know tarr, but i'll take it as a compliment :) thanks a bunch.
  • Yowda 2 years ago
Bella Tarr ? which track is this ?
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
my googling says as much, but i dont think ive seen anything...

track is "meeting in the aisle" by radiohead, off of the karma police single from, oh, 10/11 years ago.

The infininity fountain was awesome. Nice steadicam, which one did you use?
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
none. all handheld with smoothcam filter.

    :)
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 2 years ago
Works great. I thought you used one because of the steadicam tag you put.
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
just to see if it was credible, hehe.

black and white is very well used.
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
thanks man, i stayed up all night because the render times for every shot were so damn long... but i had the itch.

i did just sleep through the entire afternoon tho, haha.

    May we download it?
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
    back by popular demand...

    you wanna ipod it up?
  •
  • toolance 2 years ago
I agree tha the bits where you can see the steadicam filter trying to catch up gives it a wierd effect that I like. Have you tried chopping out tiny sections of footage to see what the filter does when it tries to bridge the gap?
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
yeah, the first shot i had to cut in two - a slight cross fade bridges the gap - because i couldnt figure out how to get the keyframes in final cut to work in order to change the smoothcam setting within one clip... when it goes round the back of his head, the effect was all over the place and cropped off most of the giant smoke stack on top of the tate modern, so i had to change it to a lot less.

the over-the-shoulder shot where the ground seems to shift dramatically with every step he takes was distorted enough in time with the music to stop me meddling further!

pretty ace in my book. what editing software did you use and was there anything attached to te cam, filter wise or else?
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
just a basic hv20, haven't had any money for anything else. wanna get a wide angle lens and a low-cost steadicam soon tho.

all edited in final cut pro 6... gradient colour filter and smoothcam filter the only adjustments.

everytime i watch this video i see something i didn't notice before. Picture structure or one item or lighteffect etc. A downloadable version with quality at the toop should be great !
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
even i'm discovering little things i didn't notice. always cool when that happens. is it not downloadable now? i did tick the option...

  • The range of tones is so crispy and crunchy and delicious. So good. I love your work.

    Hey Matthew,
I was wondering, I notice, about every 4 seconds or so, the video "jumps" or stutters a little bit. Is that a vimeo thing or is it a byproduct of the smoothcam filter? (I ask because I am so impressed with that filter!!)
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
ummmm, some jumping might be vimeos... if its that consistent...

but the over-the-shoulder shot, for instance, where the ground seems to shake with his head-movements, is typically the smoothcam filter not able to compensate in that scene, or me not being arsed to twiddle with it coz i really liked how it looked.

if you think its vimeo, shut down extra apps and let it load to the end first. :)

I really love the B&W feeling, everything looks so different.

And "Steadycam" + B&W, that's an awesome combination.

what is it you say about the gradient filter? I am definitely intrigued and have not stumbled upon that filter while color correcting in FCP.
  • matthew carrozo 2 years ago
in the effects panel, under "video filters", and then under "gradient colorize" you will find this effect that when applied turns the image black and white and has a slider to control how much black, how much white, and the gradient between the two that lets you achieve some really crisp tonalities. give it a go!

great video...I can't believe this is handheld+smoothcam! Also alot of your shots were blown out (ppls faces). You should of probably underexposed by a 1/2 stop....and it would have been perfect!
  • matthew carrozo 1 year ago
lol, underexposed. like i know what that means!

theres perfection to be found in imperfection!

there i go sucking my own dick again.

I thought it was utterly beautiful.

Your videos helped sell me on the Canon hv20. I kept on finding videos in colour, but never any in b&w.

check out "gradient filter" in FCP :)

    thanks for the kind words.
