The Secret Survival of Churches and Independence
Hrafnseyri (Raven’s Sandback) is a farm and a former parsonage. The church, consecrated in 1886, has literally been blown off its foundations twice without great harm and then put back. Iceland’s pride, sword, and shield, Jón Sigurðsson, was born in here in 1811. Jón played a unique role in Iceland’s fight for independence and the Hrafnseyri Commission honours his memory by keeping his place of birth nice and welcoming to all. And you can enjoy pancakes here. - See more at: inspiredbyiceland.com/secrets/map/#secret268
