An art video/installation/performance by Mirta Kupferminc at the Centro Cultural Recoleta, Buenos Aires, 2007. The Skin of Memory project explores the meaning of body markings, juxtaposing the forced tattoos of the Nazi concentration camps (the artist being the daughter of Auschwitz survivors) with the tattoos freely chosen in our days. The former were intended to erase personal identity, while the later are designed to enhance it. A soundtrack documents the stories of people's experiences with their tattoos. A ten year retrospective of Mirta Kupferminc's work is on view at the Hebrew Union College Museum, NYC, from September 2009 until July 2010. Mirta Kupferminc is represented in North America by GitterArts, NYC - gitterarts.net
