A pair of "Dash 9s" pulls an early afternoon ethanol train around the curve toward Shabbona, Illinois.
After shooting a few on the BNSF Mendota sub, I drove up to the BNSF Aurora sub which had become active. The ATCS Monitor showed a train nearby so I rushed to one of my previously used spots and just had enough time to set up. About this time of the day, the usual "Z" trains start to move through here. So I was pleasantly surprised to instead see tank cars headed my way.
The light was just about perfect for both the coming towards and going away shots. I edited in some 3X speed up to shorten the video up a bit. And tank cars make a cool, distinctive, whooshing sound as they go by. Or is it just me? Note the newly raised, but not yet operational wind turbines in the background.
