All footage was shot with a Caprock 2.0 on a Contax Zeiss 28mm f2.8. Almost all shots were shot at f11 at iso 100. I didn't have a step-up filter for my Fader ND so had to close down more than I wanted.

I find the 2.0 doesn't completely eliminate moire, but it does the job so that it's barely BARELY noticeable. I had to really look for it and even when I did if you didn't know what it was you wouldn't notice it. Average viewer won't see it.

For my wide shoots I'd be comfortable using this filter, and for everything else I'd take if off.

I'm trying this on a 50mm now and I actually like how it looks. It's killing the aliasing and and moire and still sharp enough for me.

It would be nice to have a comparison with it on and off. But definitely going to buy this when I get my 7D.

What version of the filter did you buy and why wouldn´t you use it in close ups?
    Thanks

Caprock 2.0 and I have used it with my 50mm and 28mm on closeups. I like it for shooting closeups, gets rid of the aliasing and takes the edge off of the HD look.

HD Look? But it's not like the 7D is ultra-sharp.

Doesn't toning down digital sharpness (can we on the 7D) takes care of the HD sharp look?

Looks awesome. Im looking at the 4x4.

Is it me but... does it seem like the filter makes the footage sightly hazzy??

Have u shot any night stuff with it?

WOW... I downloaded and watched... I could only see maybe three instances where I noticed aliasing. Sure... sharpness takes a hit but I like my images a bit soft anyway. Great solution!

Isaac... Have you tried any other sizes aside from #2?

I tried the 1.4 (Too strong) and the 4 (Did absolutely nothing to eliminate moire or aliasing) and found the 2 to be the best tradeoff between sharpness loss and moire and aliasing elimination. I've been using the Caprock on lenses from 28mm to 75mm and I'm pretty happy with the results and look it achieves.

@Pietro. It's plenty sharp when you focus properly. Especially on shallow dof close ups it has no problem resolving all the nasty imperfections on talent. I have my sharpness settings dialed down and if I need to I add an unsharp mask in post.

Have you done any tests and without the filter on? Mine has not been delivered yet, but that is probably going to be my next test. Also, I want to do day and night tests.

Also, wouldn't you want to use the slowest speed to get the largest depth of field to test the aliasing/moire?

    Hey Isaac, great work!

Based on the downloadable video, I'm guessing you shot this at 1080, but I was wondering if you get different results shooting at 720.
I'd believe there'd be a difference, because my theory is that 720 mode skips more lines in order for it to be able to read out at 60fps.

Larger gaps between lines would require a greater blur amount. Just wondering if you've done any testing to confirm or deny this.

Barry Green did a test of his own at DVXuser and he found that the best results were achieved at 1.0 or 1.4, and I was wondering if shooting 720 could explain this.

    Thoughts?

Thanks again for the video. One way or another, I'll be getting a Caprock filter.
