This is a short I did a few years ago basically lampooning myself. My handle on many forums for as long as I can remember is "Disjecta" so I used that name in the film.

There is a third act but I never got around to finishing it. This is the best resolution I have available right now.

Shot on a Panasonic DVX100a

how can you export 720x480 DV footage as something as wacky as 600x254? I like it, I'm just wondering... :)
  • Steven Dempsey 6 months ago
I prefer shooting at a 2.35:1 aspect ratio...also known as Cinemascope...more filmic and cinematic. The pixel count just works out that way when it's cropped and resized efficiently for the Web. Nearly all of my films are in this aspect.
  • Stephen Lewis 6 months ago
That is pretty nifty! How do you achieve this, I mean, when you export in this aspect ratio, don't you lop off a lot of the remaining frame from the 16:9 image?
  • Steven Dempsey 6 months ago
Yes, I lop off 12.5% from top and bottom for a total of 25%. Keep in mind that I am not actually "losing" that area of the frame because I am actually framing my shots with this aspect in mind so what gets cropped was never meant to be in the shot anyway. I use Sorenson Squeeze to chop the top and bottom and get it without letterbox.
