Women and children first is a protocol used in marine disasters, most famously the sinking RMS Titanic. The desperate saying suggests that men have a better chance of surviving a coming catastrophe than women. It is by no small coincidence that Shaun Richards chose this motto as the title for his newest painting exhibition to open at Flanders Gallery (302 S. West St., Raleigh) November 13th, 2009.
