Much of Florida's strawberry industry is planted in central Florida over winter. During frosts, overhead irrigation is deployed to protect plants from burning in the cold. Especially cold winters can tax groundwater resources. As IrriGator Maria Zamora initiates a new strawberry planting for winter 2013, we offer this short video about her cold protection irrigation study. This study focuses on whether or not reducing the traditional irrigation water pressure used to protect strawberries affects fruit yield. This year's planting will be documented from start to finish, so watch for a more in-depth piece in 2014.
