ROCK BOTTOM
When a Man reaches ROCK BOTTOM; there is only one way to go... and it may not be UP.
Filmed over two consecutive mornings, the weather conditions being much the same on both days.
I took a Taxi, with my suitcase, direct from the Airport to 'Petit Bot Bay' which I had 'Googled'!
This short scenario was filmed with the Canon 7d DSLR at 1080 25FPS. Final Cut Pro. Magic Bullet Looks. Imac 24. Stock lens 18 - 135 mm
I had with me a light weight Tripod, a banana and a suitcase.

Very impressed!

No I am not in the media and I have no voiceover experience. I think my resonance might have been assisted by the pair of NTG1 rode mics which I connected to my Sony HVR V1E via XLR inputs. (The 7d sound is too raw and uncontrollable).
I also held a cotton handkerchief taut in front of the mics to eliminate the 'ex-PUH-losives'!

All the best
Magic Bullet Looks and a bit of 'post production camera movement does the rest'.
I used STANDARD setting out of the camera.
In Magic Bullet Looks I used the preset called "BENUMBED".
Today I would probably not use a 'preset' as I more familiar with MBL and I grade manually.
However I still like the look of the 'Benumbed' preset and there is no degradation of the original HD file.
I used a warmer setting for when the Character 'finds' the coin! The BLUE LOOK in the multiscreen end title shot is also an MBL preset.
I lured the large aggressive green duck toward me with the promise of a half share in my banana.
He was contemptuous of this offering and took his revenge by vigorously attempting to 'bone' my furry windjammer -
Fortunately the Sennheiser was not within it at the time.
Well if gold carries on the same way for a bit it might turn out to have been a good deal :-)
Charming video - enjoyed that
My silver Thaler did not look the part 'on film' so I had it 24k goldplated for £20.
(I tried one or two other types of gold coin but I have eaten them).
Your remark about bullion worth, in the real world, might even come true. But, what goes up ......!
P.D.
Oh my god
"Its copulating baboons and long-eared venezuelan fruit bats this week - here's your camera - off you go!"
Just took a romp through your videos and greatly enjoyed them. I shoot with the V1U and am wondering what you use on your V1E for the close-up shots...
Do you use an adapter and prime lenses?
Cheers,
Matteus
The twenty times optical zoom is great for head and shoulder while standing away from the subject but for the really BIG close ups I used in SILVER GUILT I use a magnification filter. (Sometimes called close-up filters)
Generally, they come in sets of 3 in dioptres +1 +2 +4.
They cost very little £39 in UK for three to suit our camera and of course they are no bigger than a normal UV filter. They can also be combined together.
They will be great on your fishing trip for additional material in huge close up .. it just looks so good!
Very beautifully filmed and a very effective, creative concept.
I don't take things too seriously and I wanted to make a film that was comi-trajic.
However I had not realised how well the BAY photographed until after I returned home. I had never seen it before that morning!
It's great to see how effective you can be with just yourself and a camera. Can't always count on finding actors yet this is a better performance than you would have gotten out of someone else.
Thanks for sharing!
Phil
Trying to figure out the best way forward with available material keeps me bubbling at night!
see you soon
Paul.
See you on Thursday!
Tongue in cheek and a bit of british humor, nevertheless, FUNNY!
:-D
So, I sacrificed my lunch for my Art and used the banana until it mushed out.
Congrats!!
At the very core of humanity, from the beginning of time, there is an underlying asset which sets us apart from the beasts of the field and it begins....
"Once upon a time ... "
AND here is your own astounding vindication of the above, if ever proof were needed:

complimenti!!!
Although I did get a bit tired of the overuse of the vignettes.
I had my coin prop. And a new Canon 7d. The Canon is not ideal for self photography! But I focus up, lock off the exposure, check out the image and make a couple of takes and move to another angle. I tend to work in a chronological way. My failure to storyboard (pure laziness) led me to miss shots. So I returned the following morning to the same spot and shot a pile of cutaways.
I was very lucky with the weather .. the sun came out for exactly the crucial shot of me standing at the surf. I was able to waggle my coin about in my hand until the reflection bounced off my knackered features!
It looks pretty remote, but I can imagine what some people passing by would have thought at the site of an old man running back and forth in front of a camera. :)
To be honest I was totally F....d after I did it 5 times...my first three attempts I was not even in frame!
Would love to know the extent of autobiography, however.

I am wading through an Imac tempest of emails.
I loved all of it; its origionality, and its humor, etc., Great job!
love this, it's great
and your right, magic bullet does look great. my next investment is a letus adapter along with magic bullet, i'm excited to start making stuff with them both!
thanks
(With reference to your severe critic on 31.... Lens Flair and against-the-light (contre-jour) photography are all essential to the craft of film-making.
They even use it in the new, state of the art animation film "UP"! So bring it on! )
I note you are clutching a monster BOLEX...is mine bigger?

1. Low angle lens support.
2. Duck lure.
3. Sandy sustenance.
As I mention above .. "the large aggressive duck was displeased with his half share in my banana (he got the skin) and took his revenge by vigorously attempting to bone my furry windjammer! Happily the Sennheiser was not within it.
I REALLY LOVE your work & little stories...
Their FABULOUS..... GREAT!!!

LOVE IT!....LOVE IT!!!..... LOVE IT!!!!!!
BRAVO!!! ..... ENCORE!!!!
I owe my unexpected photographic prowess in part to the new DSLR Canon 7d and to Magic Bullet Looks.
MBL saved the against the light seascape and enhanced the cloud and sun ray 'look' .
I used "benumbed".
For Duck comment look one above!
MLB is a great tool, looks like the 7D is very good yet it is your creativity, editing and narration that make this brilliant !
A+ in my book!
The 7d FCP MBL IMAC combo is making even my photography look good. It is astonishing to think that this kit which total less than £5000 gives one the power of a studio.
