Linked from my personal and business blogs -- I belatedly realized that one of the stickers visible on my laptop is from an industry colleague.

I am not remotely embarrassed to say that I still tear up, and laugh out loud, each time I watch this! Thank You, Rannie, so much for being a part of the show this year.

    From a U.S. Perspective . . .

I think the problem here is ALL the couples. Gays are seen as undermining traditional values and then next thing you know you've got people with Master's degrees and people who believe in tolerance and people who have funny taste in couches.

This isn't what I think. But I really do think this is a considerable amount of the emotion behind people's prejudice. First come the artists, then the gays, it is said, and then the neighborhood (or region) is gentrified and pretty soon everyone wants to have film festivals or make videos for you-tube. Or talk about web 2.0 or something.

There's a cultural clash here and all those things are a threat. Strong women are a threat. Men who think for themselves and don't toe the "are you man enough" line are a threat. Men who drink wine and not beer are a threat. Gays are identified with people who have too much education, too much money, too much technology, too much art and come from the city.

It comes out as a fear of gay marriage because sexuality has always been a prism for U.S. society's issues. Look at the fear in the U.S. south of black-white marriages, and before that the exaggerated fear of black men raping white women.

Because the fact is most of us (in the U.S.) haven't come out of the closet as hetrosexual. So anybody who has come out of the closet (of any persuasion) is quite a threat.

Its Sad that there were more pets and stuffed toys than children in the pictures.

Couples with children have very little in common with those who don't. Its a door that you pass through and once through, there is no going back.

I like the concept. Tried to imagine me and my life partner there - but I can only imagine us when we were young - 28 years ago...
