So we tried to eat some Surströmming - a Swedish delicacy of rotten/fermented herring fish which gives off so much gas that it makes the tin which it is in expand to around 1 & 1/2 of it's original size... and it was probably the worst thing that I have ever eaten in my entire life of 28 years.
It smelt like a mix of burning rubber, shit, vomit and alcohol. We opened it in the back garden and over an hour later the inside of my house absolutely stinks.
We found out afterwards that this was also over 1 year out of it's edible date.
