It is a very hard time to be a follower of Christ. On the one hand we have those who Max describes -- the absolute nutjobs of the Protestant Right. They are a people who, while projecting a certain persona for public consumption, are eventually found out to be fraudulent in their following of the Prince of Peace. They are supportive of Wall Street greed, warmongering, discrimination, and other assorted behaviors which are out of line with Christian orthodoxy. In short, they don't have a clue as to what the Gospel is about. Yet, millions of people actually think that they represent the teachings of Christ Jesus. It is no wonder that people find the Gospel offensive rather than attractive.

On the other hand, orthodox Catholic Christianity has a long record of establishing certain biblical norms of behavior as being out of the realm of proper behavior for believers. Such behaviors include homosexual behavior, all sex outside of marriage, and abortion. Writings against these behaviors can be found in the epistles of first and second century pastors in the Church. Yet, to stand for this morality tends to associate one with the lunatic right, who, I believe, have latched onto these issues and used them as "wedge issues" -- convenient to get elected but not something in which they really believe. In short, orthodox Catholic Christians are being used by the far right fringe politicians.

Where then is a place for me in this arena as one who despises the culture of corporate dominance of the political scene, who abhors war started for corporate profit, who wishes to see the equality of races and peoples, but yet who also believes that there is a sexual morality which is proper? It seems that neither the Progressive movement nor the Uberrightists wish anything to do with me.

It is a lonely place to be when one has neither voice nor representation in the political landscape. The most crafty thing that the immoral have done in the last 100 years in this country is to couch immoral sexual behavior in the language of civil rights. Doing so makes me, and all others who share similar moral teachings from scripture to appear to be the same as the far right whack jobs whom Max has discussed in this video.

Finally, Max, I am disappointed that you would state that Scott Roeder was a member of Operation Rescue. You have provided no source material for this accusation and Operation Rescue as disavowed any membership or association with Roeder.

If you are going to try to claim the high moral ground in your writings and speeches, truth in your statements is a must!
